Talking with children about Heroics and Superheroes
by Scott Cranford
On March 21st, I had the pleasure of being the lead presenter for Discovery Day at the Holy Angels School for children kindergarten through eighth grade, in Arcadia California. In front of a crowd of 300 children, I spoke about what superheroes are really all about, and I told the kids why it is important to act in a heroic manner. It was thrilling to see how excited the children were about superheroes and doing good.
I discussed "The Superman Book of Morals" ,an online Superman tribute project I worked on with Michael Critzer. I recently put it online here at HeroicWorld. The forty-five minute presentation included tips on how to be a hero, heroic trivia and superhero prizes. I introduced the children to HeroicWorld's Sharpman and shared his origin. I also revealed some never seen before comic artwork of the hero.
I then went to three separate classrooms where I was able to talk to kids one on one and learned what they like most about heroes.
